“Lift” is as unremarkable as its title suggests, fitting right in with the stream of flashy, forgettable action films that Netflix continues to churn out, regardless of demand. Leading the crew is Cyrus, played by Kevin Hart, who we first see pulling off a heist at a luxury art auction in Venice. This film spices up its international escapades with stunning aerial views of European cities like Venice, London, and Brussels, which tend to blend together. Hart steps away from his usual fast-talking, bewildered character, which is a refreshing change. However, by casting him as a charming rogue, "Lift" fails to provide him with any engaging material to work with.

Cyrus has a complicated history with Abby Gladwell, an Interpol agent portrayed by Gugu Mbatha-Raw, who is keeping an eye on his crew. Following her superior's orders—played by Sam Worthington, who gets to embrace his Australian roots—Abby reluctantly enlists Cyrus and his team to execute the gold heist. The gold is being transferred by the wealthy villain Jean Reno to a terrorist organization, aiming to create chaos for his own gain. Don’t worry if the plot seems convoluted; the main goal is to bring these characters together for some thrilling mid-air action. Each member of the team has a designated role—Camila (Úrsula Corberó) is the pilot, Mi-Sun (Yun Jee Kim) is the hacker, and Denton (Vincent D’Onofrio) is the master of disguise, among others—and that’s about all there is to their characters. They spend their time poking fun at each other in high-rise apartments and warehouses, where the bright, flat lighting remains constant, and the dialogue struggles to be lighthearted. The standout is Billy Magnussen as the safecracker, Magnus; he brings a wonderfully quirky energy reminiscent of Brad Pitt in "Burn After Reading." It feels like he’s in a completely different film, one that you might find more enjoyable.

The excitement and thrills of "Lift" often come from its rather generic editing techniques, like fast-paced sequences, zooms, and montages. After a certain point, the numerous fistfights on airplanes start to feel repetitive and tiresome, much like the film itself. However, maybe "Lift" is most enjoyable when you're actually on a flight, looking for something light and entertaining to help pass the time.
